Summit at Sea!

Summit at Sea took place off the coast of Miami last weekend, with 2,500 thoughtful innovators, business and nonprofit founders, and artists of all kinds, people making a difference in the world. It was hosted by our Publisher's son, Elliott Bisnow, and his Summit team.

Google’s Eric Schmidt and Uber’s Travis Kalanick shared memories, lessons and aspirations about their companies, and talked about the need to disrupt industries that weren't serving consumers. The inspirational voyage was described by some as TED meets Burning Man, though someone said there was so much mind-bending content, it should be called Learning Man

John Legend spoke about prison reform with Bryan Stevenson and civil rights icon Harry Belafonte; then he sat at the keyboard and sang about social justice. The requirements to be invited: You have to be passionate about what you’re doing, and you have to be a nice person.

Speakers included TOMS shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, one of many  fascinating talks by a diverse group of people working to have an impact. Some favorite takeaways: Academy Award winner Peter Guber said, "Goals are dreams with a timeline," and the Hyperloop’s Shirven Pishevar said, "Fear is finite, but hope is infinite."
