N Street Village Gala!

Last night we went to The Ritz-Carlton for the N Street Village Gala, because we love its work with the homeless community, and because we wanted to meet Richard Gere.

Richard Gere presented the Steinbruck Award to this year’s N Street Village residents who have turned their lives around and helped others in the community. He was chosen for the 25 years he's brought attention to global issues, including his recent role in the movie Time Out of Mind, when he was disguised as a homeless person in NYC.

Close to 800 guests were treated to a three-course seated dinner, silent auction, raffle, an abundance of decadent desserts, and a surprise performance by Broadway superstar Jennifer Holiday. The gala honors those who make a substantial impact on DC’s homeless community every day.

For the past 40 years, the doors of N Street Village have been open, providing hope and hospitality to the city’s most vulnerable women. Here, sponsors Pepco Holdings’ Debbie Jarvis, Marriott CEO Arnie Sorenson, gala chair Hilary Baltimore, and Board member WPA’s Patricia Howell.

Honorees included Comcast NBCUniversal SVP Melissa Maxfield. She's with Chris Putala, Duberstein Group partner Brian Griffin, and Sen. Byron Dorgan

N Street Village offers homeless and low-income women services and advocacy in an atmosphere of dignity and respect; this year, it raised an incredible $7.5M for its work. Here, Johnson & Johnson’s Kelly Reid and Carla Cartwright flank Board member Michael Nassy.
