Lou di Palo at Via Umbria

Last night, we went to Georgetown’s Via Umbria for an intimate gathering and book-signing with Lou Di Palo, Italian food expert, gastronome and celebrated author of Guide to the Essential Foods of Italy.

We snapped the acclaimed NY food store owner and author surrounded by Mary Rose Catena and Via Umbira co-owners Bill and Suzy Menard.

Guests enjoyed wine and cheese straight from Di Palo’s NY shop. Our fave: heavenly prosciutto-wrapped fresh mozzarella. Here, UCLA’s Ed Caddell with Via Umbria managers Elsa Bruno and Sandy Bonner.

Lou Di Palo discussed everything from his favorite places in Italy, to the family history of his current stores in New York, as well as a bit of Italian politics (it is DC, after all!) His book was later discussed at Via Umbria’s monthly book club. Via Umbria opened in September on Wisconsin Ave and features beautifully crafted home goods from Italy. Here, Italy enthusiasts WilliaJohn and Laura Hennigan.
