Row, Row, Row...To Raise Money

When it comes to fundraising for a good cause, lawyers get creative: a battle of the bands, a bike race; in Katten Muchin's case, a regatta. The law firm recently held its second annual regatta, raising more than $12k for the Food From The Bar fundraising campaign to fight hunger in the DC area.

Firm chairman Roger Furey paddled with IP partner Michael Justus. (They were also partners in last year's inaugural race, when Roger was the DC office managing partner and Michael was an associate.) Roger's term as chairman of the 600-lawyer firm started June 1; he took over for Vincent Sergi, who'd led the firm for 21 years.

New DC office managing partner Tim Lynes and his rowing mate special counsel Robyn Mandel outraced the pack of 16 boats and emerged as the victors of the regatta—even while both wearing suits.

Katten associate John Sun and summer associate Christina Knox teamed up for the race down the Potomac.

Food From the Bar is the DC legal community's monthlong annual fundraiser in partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank. On top of raising $12k, Katten's DC office also donated more than 200 pounds of food (the equivalent of 30,000 meals) and during two volunteer shifts Katten volunteers packed 12,400 pounds of food.

This year's Food From the Bar raised a record total of $275k from 47 law firms.
