Last Night's Podcasts and Beer Summit

Last night, cyberlaw enthusiasts gathered at the old Washington Firehouse—a former fire station converted into a restaurant and bar on North Capitol—for the "Triple Entente Beer Summit." It brought together three podcasts for a live taping: the Steptoe Cyberlaw Podcast, the Lawfare Podcast and Rational Security. The latter two are produced by Brookings. Before the recording, we snapped Mike Reilly, Rational Security's Shane Harris and cybersecurity adviser Jonathan Litchman.

Lawfare's Ben Wittes and Steptoe's Mike Vatis both appeared on the podcasts, along with Shane Harris, Stewart Baker, and Tamara Wittes. Mike, who was the founding director of the National Infrastructure Protection Center at the FBI,  tells us that the Second Circuit's ruling on Section 215 of the Patriot Act this week will have a big impact on the congressional debate over its reauthorization. With amendments almost certain to the section that justifies the NSA's metadata collection program before it is reauthorized, Mike says it'll be one, or more likely, two years, before the issue comes before the Supreme Court
