Now Open in Penn Quarter: Red Apron

Meat-lovers' haven Red Apron Butcher opened its third location this week at 709 D Street NW. The shop is a combination restaurant, market, and full-service butcher, offering breakfast, lunch, small-batch handmade charcuterie, premium butcher cuts, prepared food, and pantry items like housemade stocks and sauces. Breakfast sandwiches will be served on tigelles, an Italian flatbread reminiscent of an English muffin (but tastier). The six sandwich options will range from familiar (The Patriot: sausage, bacon, egg, cheese, maple butter) to kicked up (Buenos Dias: chorizo, pickled onion, and more). Lunch will include Red Apron signatures like the porkstrami and the beef & cheddar.

Chef Nathan Anda is leading the charge, and his commitments to local sourcing and animal welfare are apparent throughout. He tells us Red Apron is the only butcher to source 100% Animal Welfare Approved pork. Soon, Nathan will partner with Chef Ed Witt to open The Partisan next door. There, he'll offer a dinner menu that draws heavily from Red Apron's product line.
