White House Tracking Web Activity
Ah, Sunshine Week. That celebration of government openness and transparency. (We mark the occasion be eating FOIA gras and drinking beers with the lids as open as possible.) The White House celebrated by releasing the Digital Analytics Dashboard to see how people are accessing 300 of 1,350 government domains. (They’ve already seen over 1.3B visits in the past 90 days.) The data will be used to focus the White House’s digital service teams. The White House assures us the program anonymizes visitors' IP addresses. The dashboard found that in the past 90 days, 33% of all traffic came from phones and tablets; up from 24% the same time last year. Not surprisingly, visits to IRS.gov have more than tripled.
