Virginia Isn't Just For Lovers

techamerica-matthew kazmierczakThe US tech industry had its second consecutive year of job growth with the sectoradding 67,400 net jobs in 2012; the total number of tech workers in the US is now six million. The industry represents 5.4% of the private sector workforce and pays higher average salaries, says TechAmerica Foundation VP Matthew Kazmierczak,author of a new Cyberstates report. Software services are where most of the tech job growth happened, with tech manufacturing dropping by 9,500 jobs. California still leads the US in tech jobs with nearly 970,000, followed by Texas, NY, Virginia, and Florida.Virginia had the highest concentration of tech workers in the entire country, with nearly 10% of its workforce in tech.

Virginia continued to outpace Maryland and DC in many of the rankings, including number of tech establishments. Maryland's tech sector lost 400 jobs but still ranked 11th for tech employment and 9th for tech salaries. DC lost 800 jobs, ranking it 35th for tech employment but 6th for tech salaries.
