EastBanc's Spin Off

EastBanc's Spin Off

EastBanc Technologies

Cicadas aren't the only ones debuting in DC this summer.EastBanc Technologies introduced Apiphany, its third spin off in the company's 13-year history. EastBanc Tech VP and chief of staff Bill Conforti, Apiphany sales and marketing SVP Steve Brown, and EastBanc Tech CEO/president Wolf Ruzicka toasted the newcomer at a gathering in Georgetown. The small startup builds API management systems. Wolf says the product is most appealing to media and entertainment clients (it has a few already) because they can use the API management system to easily build their own apps.

Wolf says EastBanc, which builds tech products for companies like Microsoft and Microstrategy, isn't a traditional incubator that spins out companies. But he likes taking an idea that one of his 150 employees may have as a new business and helping it get off the ground. The first time EastBanc did it, it was a "disaster," says Wolf. Focused on emergency management for government, it was ahead of its time. The second spin off had more success as an interface that uses transit agency data to help people plan trips. And with Apiphany, "we did everything right," he adds.
