Mark's Mashup

Washington, D.C. Other

Quick! What's this? Why, the 110k SF buildings Beats by Dre is about to make their HQ on this quiet side street in LA.

And this? Of course, the entrance in the cul-de-sac at the other end of the street to the set of Hell's Kitchen, the big FOX reality show with chef Gordon Ramsay.

And this? In the middle of the same street, the set to the Showtime series, "Californication."

Their common denominator? All in something called the Hayden Track of Culver City, Calif., about eight miles distant from Hollywood, buried at the elbow of the 405 and 10 freeways. It's a newly re-emerging area for entertainment-oriented creative companies. A few minutes walk away is a burgeoning pedestrian-friendly stretch of restaurants and bars…

…and a more traditional office that features Sony's corporate outpost and backlot, which used to be MGM's. The neighborhood was started 100 years ago by a guy named Harry Culver, and flourished at one time as the place where movies like Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, the Wizard of Oz, and the original King Kong were made. Bisnow Media is thinking we should do all our filming there as well.
