The Evolution of Creative Workspaces

As Millennial's continue to take over the workforce, offices are forgoing structured cubicles in favor of open floor plans and collaborative environments. But it's not a one-size-fits-all strategy. While an active and vibrant environment can be productive for some, it can be distracting for others, Streetsense reports. So flexibility and an open mind are necessary. Here are a few ways the workplace is evolving to accommodate a new generation:

Inside The Workplace
Then: Cubicles and offices
Now: The CEO is working side-by-side with everyone else, fostering out-of-the-box thinking and collaboration.

Work/Life Balance
Then: 9 to 5
Now: The lines are blurred between lifestyle and the workplace, causing offices to offer amenities to increase productivity. Examples include gourmet kitchens and cool, creative reception areas.

Office Aesthetics
Then:
An office looks like…an office. Bland, uninspiring.
Now: The office is the company's calling card, marketing its creativity and capabilities.

Quality of Life
Then:
Standard cubicles, fluorescent lighting...unengaged workers.
Now: Well-being and happiness are a priority. There are more outdoor workspaces and sunlit common areas. Sunshine makes people happy, which makes them more productive. Other examples include standing desks and ping-pong tables. [SS]
