How Hot Can NoMa Get?
Seven residential buildings under construction. Four office buildings. A million SF of new leasing in the last 12 months. 7M SF of development to be completed by 2019. That’s why we’re excited to be holding our annual summit on Northeast DC this Wednesday morning, on location in NoMa.
Is there any more bustling spot on weekends in DC than Union Market, which we snapped yesterday?
Yes, it does skew heavily Millennial—but, folks, that’s what makes stuff hot these days. (On a side note, isn’t “craft Kombucha” redundant? Or is most Kombucha just “ordinary?”)
But it’s not just the food buzzing—only a few feet away at 500 Penn, in a DUMBO meets Union Market moment, famed digital strategy agency HUGE is joining other creative businesses like Venga and GoodFight Media at Edens' Maurice Electric Supply building.
Of course, this might not be a coincidence—it could be the “hugs and knishes” that lured HUGE from Brooklyn.
Or the vegan and gluten-free dosas (crepes made with lentil-based batter). Or scores of other food options that help make NoMa a new mecca for retail, residential and office.
In case you’re wondering, many now consider Union Market part of Greater NoMa because it’s becoming a seamless two-block transition as developments go up from LCOR (underway), Level 2, Foulger Pratt, Trammell Crow and the Wilkes Co.
Meanwhile, here’s the historic Ice House at 1140 3rd St being reconstructed with 41k SF of office that will be the new home of international co-working firm Spaces…
…and 105k SF of office being readied, together with REI's new flagship, at adjacent Uline Arena (to be renamed The Coliseum), all developed by Douglas Development.
And it’s not just rentals anymore, but condos, like the Lexicon’s 182 units going up at 50 Florida Ave.
Tishman Speyer plans another building at 1150 First St NE, next to the pioneering one it built in 2009 (acquired by the Rockefeller Group in 2011, and which now has big signage for tenant Mathematica). Construction of the 405-unit Camden NoMa's Phase 2, delivering in '17, is in the background.
AvalonBay is building the 436-unit Ava NoMa apartment house between M and Pierce behind its first behemoth on First Street.
Republic Properties is about to deliver 660 North Capitol St and has already tenanted it with both the National Association of Counties and National League of Cities.
