AvalonBay Sells 217-Unit Community Next To Greensboro Metro
Arlington-based REIT AvalonBay has offloaded a 1980s-era, low-lying apartment community just steps from the Greensboro Metro station.
Linden Property Group, a mid-Atlantic multifamily investment company, announced on LinkedIn on Thursday that it acquired the 217-unit property at 1723 Gosnell Road in Vienna, Virginia, with joint venture partner Akridge.
AvalonBay disclosed the sale a day earlier in its second-quarter earnings report, in which it said the price was $68M.
AvalonBay and Akridge did not respond to requests for comment.
On LinkedIn, Linden said it plans to take on a “robust capital improvement program” at the property, with upgrades to units, amenities and exteriors.
“These investments are designed to elevate the resident experience while preserving the community's long-term value,” Linden said.
The property, which under AvalonBay’s ownership was called Eaves Tysons Corner, is being renamed Tysons Crossing.
“Tysons Crossing represents an important milestone for Linden Property Group and reinforces our conviction in the long-term strength of workforce housing across the Northern Virginia market,” Linden Property Group founder and Managing Partner Wade Casstevens said in an email.
AvalonBay had owned the community since 2013, at which time it paid $63.6M for the land and improvements, according to Avalon’s 2025 year-end report.
The REIT has undertaken a significant number of dispositions in the D.C. metro area over the past year.
In March, AvalonBay sold a 234-unit apartment building just north of the Van Ness Metro station for $69.8M, Bisnow first reported. Last year, it offloaded a 1,248-unit D.C. apartment portfolio for $447M, a transaction also first reported by Bisnow. Foulger Pratt picked up the four properties: two in NoMa, one in Gallery Place and one in the H Street corridor.
With this acquisition, Linden now owns and operates 18 properties totaling around 2,900 units in the mid-Atlantic, across Maryland, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia. The investor said the Vienna deal was its third joint venture acquisition with Akridge.
