15 Things You Need to Know This Morning

What You Didn’t Know About Robin-Eve Jasper

Title: President, NoMa Business Improvement District.
Years on the job: 3.
Organization: BID includes over 17M SF of built space in 35 blocks, north of the Capitol between Union Station and Union Market. About 40 employees work on planning, events, and keeping NoMa’s commercial core clean and appealing. 
Memorable project: Creating and managing the public-private partnership ($50M from DC and land and construction contributions from NoMa developers) to provide urban parks and public spaces in NoMa.
Current project: Creating a temporary park and event space on former Greyhound site on First St. NE to go with NoMa’s new Wunder Garten beer garden on M St. “2015 will be the summer of North by Northeast in NoMa.”
CRE career: Started providing affordable rental housing in large scale neighborhoods east of Anacostia River in the ‘90s. 
Grew up: NYC – 4th generation Manhattanite.
School: Duke.
First job: Designing retail windows and print advertising in New York at age 21. 
Job in another life: Explorer.
Daily habit: Shoveling horse manure.
Favorite app: Virginia Wines in my Pocket.
Favorite movie: Princess Bride.
Favorite restaurant: Bourbon Steak.
Favorite band and song: The Who – Baba O’Riley.
Favorite vacation spot: Home.
Bucket list: Sabbatical to think more deeply about planning and how people live in the 21st century.
Family: Married; two grown children and one daughter-in-law; two dogs, two horses, and Flo, the wonder cat. 
Hobbies: Running, horseback riding, Iyenger yoga, kayaking, building, and rehabbing houses.
Startling fact: Spent first 10 years of professional career as a corporate lawyer at a Wall Street firm. Wound up in DC as a lawyer/lobbyist representing American Indian tribes and Alaska corporations.
