What You Didn't Know About Scott Ross

Job: Launched Ross Development & Investment in 1983. Now in charge of acquisitions, ownership, overseeing operating performance, and maintaining investor relationships for multifamily rental communities. 
On the job: 32 years.
Company: 278 employees; owns and manages 34 multifamily communities (valued at $1.5B) in DC metro and Baltimore. Deal pipeline in acquisitions and third-party management growth is five deals per year, and construction management has averaged $20M per year in renovation and multifamily projects.
Most memorable project: Rockville Town Square – transit-oriented mixed-use development with 1M SF of multifamily, condos, retail, and parking, completed in 2007. Project was catalyst for redevelopment of downtown Rockville. 
Current project: Co-developing 7770 Norfolk Ave. (200 luxury apartments) in Bethesda, with JBG and CIM.
CRE career: Started as architect with city planning and urban design; transitioned to project manager for The Rouse Company, working on developing downtown Columbia, Md. 
Grew up: Brooklyn.
Current home: Bethesda.
Why DC: Worked for Donohoe and needed to shorten commute from Columbia.
Schools: Pratt Institute, Harvard, and Johns Hopkins.
First job: Construction in New Jersey during architecture school.

Bucket list: Visit historic and contemporary works of architecture and understand them in their context. 
Family: Married 45 years; son and daughter, and two grandsons and two granddaughters. 
Hobbies: Building LEGO architectural series, movies, playing with grandchildren, rowing a single shell, and exercise.
Startling fact: Has shared a desk with wife, Beth, president of Ross Management Services, for 32 years.
