15 Things You Need to Know This Morning
What You Didn’t Know About Wes Boatwright

Title: Managing director, JLL.

Job: Manage real estate investment banking group with two partners, raising JV equity and debt for existing and future real estate projects. Work on 20-30 deals a year.  Focused on mid-Atlantic (from Delaware to Carolinas), but 90% of work in greater DC.
Years on the job: 8; in CRE since ’93. 
Current project: 700 Pennsylvania Ave. – 630k SF mixed-use project in Eastern Market on the Hill. 
First CRE job: Moved to DC after grad school in ‘93, and saw job ad for real estate analyst at Walker & Dunlop, where roommate’s brother worked. 
Grew up: Newport News.
Current home: Spring Valley.
Why DC: Job market wasn’t great, but knew DC had strong Washington & Lee alum network that could help.
Schools: Washington & Lee University and William & Mary (MBA). 
First job: Delivering The Daily Press (Hampton Roads).
Job in another life: Teach college or boarding school and coach school’s ice hockey team. 
Daily habit: Make a to-do list. 
Favorite apps: Evernote, Noteshelf, and Uber.
Favorite movies: It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle. (Has Herb Brooks’ locker room speech memorized.)
Favorite restaurants: Black Salt and Johnny Boy’s BBQ. 
Favorite bands: Grateful Dead, Greensky Bluegrass, U2, and White Animals. 
Favorite vacation spot: House in Chester, Nova Scotia. 
Guilty pleasure: Collecting and drinking expensive and rare bourbon. (Owns 60 bottles.) 
Bucket list: Take off three months and drive the country in an RV with family; attend last Grateful Dead concert in Chicago. 
Family: Happily married 16 years; two daughters (10 and 7); and chocolate lab. 
Hobbies: Playing ice hockey and hunting.
Startling fact: Owned bungee jumping business in Nags Head in 1992, and jumped close to 300 times. Hasn’t done it since ’93.
