$110M Mixed-Use Project On Tap At Southern Edge Of UMD

Another big College Park development is officially in the pipeline, with the University of Maryland and Bozzuto joining forces on a $110M mixed-use project.

The University of Maryland has announced plans for a grocery-anchored, mixed-use community at the site of the Quality Inn and legendary College Park restaurant Plato's Diner. In early 2017, the University of Maryland College Park Foundation will acquire the property, and collaborate with Bozzuto and Willard Retail—formed by the owners of what was once JBGR—to bring the project to life.

The project is slated to break ground in 2018, and the aim is to create a town-center atmosphere within steps of the campus, and to help revitalize the Baltimore Avenue corridor and academic campus. Design Collective has been tasked with design for the project, which will include 300 luxury apartments.

As part of the University’s Greater College Park initiative, the new development will make a number of new amenities available to the community, including the more than 50,000 students, faculty and staff at UMD.

This is the latest project announced with an eye towards revitalizing the College Park area. Back in March, War Horse CEO and UMD grad Scott Plank proposed redeveloping two university-owned properties under long-term leases with the institution. Scott's brother, Under Armour founder Kevin Plank, will speak at UMD's commencement ceremony next week.
