Redevelopment Project Planned For Key Block In Downtown Bethesda

A group of property owners on the 7000 block of Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda have their sights set on a redevelopment project, and would like a little more space to make it happen.

The group, led by Starr Capital and Offutt Dynasty Trust, has plans for new residential buildings and public spaces to replace nearly two acres of low-rise and commercial properties. As part of the group’s proposal, they are seeking more allowable density on the site through the Planning Board’s ongoing update of the Bethesda Downtown Plan, Bethesda Magazine reports.

Plans call for two 14-story mixed-use residential buildings on Wisconsin Avenue, and two nine-story mixed-use residential buildings on neighboring Strathmore Street. Additional space would be reserved for open space, parks and a pedestrian cut-through, and the project would also help pay for the improvement of streets in the vicinity.

The project site is just up the road from the 8008 Wisconsin Ave project that was recently purchased by Toll Brothers City Living from Douglas Development. Plans for that project call for about 100 condos, underground parking and a landscaped roof terrace. [BETH]
