Toll Brothers Planning Second Downtown Bethesda Condo Project

Toll Brothers City Living has purchased the 8008 Wisconsin Ave project in downtown Bethesda from Douglas Development Corp.

The Pennsylvania-based developer plans to convert the proposed 14-story building into a luxury condominium project. Plans call for about 100 condos, underground parking, a landscaped rooftop terrace, a fitness center and concierge services, Bethesda Magazine reports.

Douglas purchased the property back in 2013 and had plans for a 14-story apartment building with 140 units before hitting a snag with the county, which implemented new right-of-way rules for bus rapid transit in the county’s 2013 master plan. As a result of the new rules, Douglas would have been required to give up extra right-of-way to allow for a future route and bus rapid transit station on Wisconsin Avenue. The Jemals decided to sell instead.

Toll Brothers hopes to begin construction on the project in summer 2017. This will be the second condo project in downtown Bethesda from Toll Brothers, which is also working on Hampden Row at Hamden Lane and Arlington Road. The company continues to grow its presence in Bethesda, including plans to build up to 330 homes on a 75-acre site that’s home to WMAL’s radio towers. [BETH]
