DC's Olympic Bid in 2024 Still Looks Like a Long Shot

Placeholder

Boston 2024 is dead, but those hoping that reignites a groundswell of support for DC's own Olympic bid might want to temper their enthusiasm. Any new bid the US Olympic Committee wants to submit to the International Olympic Committee must be in by September 2015, which means a replacement host city has to move fast. According to a source close to the IOC, almost all of the current focus is on Los Angeles, a city that has hosted two Olympics before and already has approval for a new stadium that could serve as an Olympic centerpiece. San Francisco also submitted a bid last year to host the 2024 games. The anti-Olympic sentiment in DC wasn't nearly as strong as it was in Boston, but it was still not a public slam dunk. We'll have a more concrete answer soon, either way.
