New Museum Dedicated To Pop Culture Seeking 100k SF

Having already scratched a potential location in the District off its list, a new museum dedicated to pop culture is still on the lookout for 100k SF in a high-traffic area.

The Museum of Pop Culture has the backing of Seattle-based Vulcan Inc, a charitable and philanthropic company founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The group considered but ultimately passed on a development site at 14th and G streets NW in DC, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Cushman & Wakefield has been retained by the venture to assist with its search. At the top of the wish list is a unique first-floor space in an area that sees heavy foot traffic. The team behind the proposed museum has expanded the search to include venues in other cities, with New York City mentioned as a possible destination.

This would not be the first time a proposed museum has set its sights on NYC after initially seeking adequate space in the District. Earlier this year, the proposed National LGBT Museum shifted its focus to the Big Apple after coming up empty in a lengthy search for space near DC’s National Mall. [WBJ]
