Thumbs Up for Facebook Donate Now Button

Placeholder

For the past two years, the Facebook “Donate Now” button was only available to 19 nonprofits like the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. They used it to raise millions of dollars. But the social network opened it up recently to all nonprofits. The button debuted after Facebook raised funds for Typhoon Haiyan support. One of the biggest criticisms of “Donate Now” has been that organizations can’t track where donations are coming from, since the button keeps users within Facebook’s platform. The company has since made adjustments by linking users to a nonprofit’s website if that organization is not affiliated with Facebook. [AN]
