National Restaurant Chain Becomes More Charitable
California Pizza Kitchen, the company that revolutionized pizza in the mid-'80s (yes, we think being the first to add BBQ chicken to pizza is revolutionary), is going through a major relaunch at its restaurants. It's also becoming more philanthropic. CPK's Fairfax Corner location is supporting a DC area nonprofit called Heroes Inc., that helps the spouses and children of fallen police and firefighters, says CEO GJ Hart (center). The restaurant raised funds this week by encouraging guests to make a donation. On Oct. 19, all seven CPKs in DC, Virginia and Maryland are participating in a fund-raising drive to support their local Make-A-Wish chapter. Local police and firefighters will help serve guests and encourage them to make a donation to Make-A-Wish.
