Museum Square Residents Plan Rally to Extend Section 8

Placeholder

Residents of Museum Square and their supporters have planned a rally for tomorrow afternoon in an attempt to extend the building’s affordable housing contract, which expires Oct. 1.

Any residents that move out at contract expiration could be replaced by tenants who would pay market rate rent, but the building’s owner has other plans. Bush Cos plans to tear down the building and replace it with 825 luxury condo units and 17k SF of retail. Residents who remain after the contract’s expiration cannot be legally evicted unless authorized by District courts.

A petition against the razing of Museum Square has attracted 1,900 signatures. Several hundred people are expected for tomorrow’s rally, which will gather at 401 K St NW[WCP]
