Arlington Gives Green Light To Redevelopment Of Berkeley Apartments

The Arlington County Board has approved the redevelopment of an affordable housing complex near the Arlington-Alexandria border.

The redevelopment will transform The Berkeley, at 2910 S Glebe Rd, from two four-story buildings into two larger five-story buildings. The increase in size will also lead to a bump in the number of affordable units available at the property, ARLnow reports.

Currently, The Berkeley contains 137 units in the two buildings, with 110 of the units designated for affordable housing. Nonprofit developer AHC Inc has plans for 257 units in the new buildings, and will set aside 155 of them as affordable. Plans call for 140 of the units to be family-sized and contain two or more bedrooms.

AHC intends to file paperwork with Arlington County’s Affordable Housing Investment Fund to help finance the project. Last month, the Arlington County Board unanimously approved its fiscal year 2017 budget, which included $13.6M for the fund. [ARL]
