UC Berkeley Selects Developer For Hotel Project

UC Berkeley is set to work with an undisclosed developer on a 200-room hotel on campus. The college would not publicly announce its choice because negotiations are still ongoing, according to the East Bay Times.

The college solicited proposals for the hotel last November and sought a major hotel company to build on the 0.41-acre lot at the intersection of University Avenue and Oxford Street. The building is expected to be 115 feet tall at most.

While the specific terms of the deal are being finalized, a spokesman for UC Berkeley hoped construction would start toward the end of 2017, targeting a 2019 open.
