Software Engineer Finds Affordable Digs in San Francisco

Placeholder

Software engineer Katherine Patterson is not the only one who feels the rents in San Francisco are just a little too pricey, but she has found a creative way to get around it.

Katherine spent the equivalent of three month’s rent to buy her current home, a 1969 Volkswagen camper van. She spent considerable time and effort to renovate the van into something she could call home, SFGate reports. Although she could likely manage rent on her salary, she has decided that paying off student loans and saving outweigh the benefits of pricier accommodations.

Rents in San Francisco show no signs of slowing down and could continue to rise. Here’s to wondering if Katherine hasn't inadvertently started the latest housing trend for the area. [SFG]
