Several real estate professionals were busy during the holiday season volunteering and raising money for good causes. Check out some of their ongoing charitable efforts below.
KTGY Supports Habitat For Humanity
About 30 employees from KTGY Architecture + Planning’s Oakland office (above) participated in a cleanup day for Habitat for Humanity’s East Bay/Silicon Valley chapter. During the event at 10211 Bryon Ave in Oakland, KTGY volunteers cleared large piles of debris, furniture, trash and overgrown bushes. The crew removed 70 cubic yards (about three dumpsters full) of material.
The vacant lot near the Oakland Zoo will be transformed into energy-efficient townhouses. KTGY has long supported Habitat for Humanity and has designed several projects for the organization over the years.
KTGY celebrated its 25th anniversary by highlighting 25 Acts of Gratitude, which includes Habitat for Humanity build days where staff from all seven offices worked to build a home for a family in need. KTGY’s Making a Difference Program focused on feeding the homeless during Thanksgiving, building parks on vacant lots and educating girls in need.
Local Savills Studley Office Recognized By Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Savills Studley corporate managing director Mike Mordaunt (above far right with family and co-workers) personally raised over $30k for the Silicon Valley/Monterey Bay Area chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during recent regional Corporate Cup and Executive challenges. Savills Studley’s San Jose office participated in the Corporate Cup Challenge for the first time and received Rookie of the Year honors. The local LLS chapter recognized 14 local companies and 16 notable individuals for their participation. Other divisional winners included Walgreens, Silicon Valley Bank, Jazz Pharmaceuticals and the San Jose Earthquakes.
Pacific Union’s Community Fund Reaches Milestone
The start of the year marked 25 years of charitable giving at Pacific Union International. Pacific Union established its Community Fund in 1993 to support shelters and related services for at-risk populations, including families, abused women and children and youth. Among the organizations Pacific Union has supported are UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Cup Regatta (above). Since 2009, Pacific Union has funded over 145 Bay Area nonprofits with donations over $1M.
Local Developers Support STEM Education
Wareham Development provided the first funding to develop YMCA of East Bay’s CIRCLe Lab, which will provide real-life STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) exposure to the East Oakland community at 5908 Foothill Blvd. The program was officially launched last month during an event at the YMCA East Bay, which was attended by Wareham Development partner Chris Barlow and director of marketing Judy Wetterer (above). CIRCLe Labs is an initiative of the Institute for STEM Education, founded by CSU East Bay. Wareham has actively been a part of a network supporting the institution since 2011. East Bay Economic Development Alliance has also been a key partner and members will provide STEM volunteers for CICLe Lab presentations.
