500 Startups Expands Downtown

San Francisco Office

The city just netted a big one: 500 Startups, a famous engine that fuels the "next big thing." (It can't claim responsibility for Justin Bieber, but at this point that's probably a good thing.)

JLL VP Michael DeMaria is a happy camper because he just brokered the deal. (The avid fly fisherman is snapped here holding a 10-pound Steelhead he caught on a NorCal river. (He's also a winner of our Fish Tales contest, see others below.)

500 Startups, which will maintain its HQ in Mountain View nearby VC heavyweights, just inked a 12k SF lease to take the entire sixth floor of 814 Mission for seven years. JLL still has four more floors to lease on behalf of the landlord, Westfield. 500 Startups provides early stage companies with up to $250k in funding, its startup accelerator program, and events like GeeksOnaPlane. The lease proves more Silicon Valley-based companies are planting additional offices in the city to be closer to tech.
