Update On Google's Plans

We learned that Google had one other contender when it won the Hangar One RFP. (No, it wasn't Ask Jeeves, but we couldn't get the GSA to spill the beans.) As for Google's plan, local GSA spokeswoman Traci Madison tells us the re-skinning will be wrapped up two years after approvals, and the plan is to build a 90k SF facility—the max amount of new square footage allowed on site—for use as an educational museum or incubator. The next big tech discovery could be born there: Google plans to do R&D for "space, aviation, rover/robotics, and other emerging technology," says the proposal. As manager of the site, Google has to construct a separate aircraft fuel facility providing only jet fuel. It'll also have the laborious task of getting bulk fuel from outside vendors.
