TECHIES LIVE ON
Who knew the Bay Area wasn’t just home to 20-something, Bluetooth-wearing, iPod-using techies? Continuing Life Communities did—it's under construction on a 46-acre, 635-home retirement community, Stoneridge Creek in Pleasanton. VP of planning and development Troy Bourne tells us the company is putting in the underground utilities and interior streets; buildings will start going up in early ’12. This is CLC’s first foray into NorCal and the company is actively seeking additional sites. What makes the tech center so attractive to a retirement community builder? Troy says the Bay Area boasts a lot of former high-tech employees who are now retired. Facilities like Alameda County’s Lawrence Livermore National Lab attracted top minds from all over the country to Cali and those folks don’t want to leave. The region’s reputation for innovation and technology “is not as new as the Internet bubble would suggest.”
