Ray: The Double Threat
If you need something built and there’s no contractor around, Allen Matkins construction law practice group co-chair Ray Buddie might be your man. Yesterday we chatted with Ray, who’ll be a panelist atBisnow’s San Francisco Construction & Development Summit, March 27 at the InterContinental San Francisco. (Sign up here!)
Ray: The Double Threat
He started his career as a civil engineer in the construction business and then went to law school. The legal issues that came up, such as claims, accidents, and contract disputes, made him realize that “there was probably a good opportunity for somebody who understood construction, design, and engineering.” (Forget lawyers, we know CRE people who can't even do that trifecta.) Right now, he’s working with a client on a $750M hospital project, providing advice on contract interpretation and claims resolution on an ongoing basis to avoid potential litigation. He’s also working with a client to resolve claims involving delays and substandard work by subcontractors on a biomass generation facility. Ray’s resume doesn’t stop there: He also served as Mayor of Sausalito and was a 10-year member of the Marin County Planning Commission.
