Competition Fierce for Data Centers

Greater Philly has stiff data center competition, namely from large neighboring markets in northern New Jersey and Northern Virginia, which serve New York and DC respectively. (The rivalry goes beyond sports, folks.) That was one of the takeaways from yesterdays Bisnow Philadelphia Data Center Boom event.

About 175 real estate pros came to the Ritz-Carlton to hear a diverse panel, including execs from Comcast Business, Gilbane Building Co, Sunesys, and UPenn, who offered expertise on data center tech, and data center real estate specialists from Digital Realty Trust, Enterprise Technology Parks, Real Property Solutions, and 365 Main. PECO regional director, economic development Edward Piscopo gave the keynote. We'll cover the event in detail in the next edition.

Snapped at the Summit: Comcast Business Chris Connor, Enterprise Technology Parks Corey Blanton, and Comcast Business Ian Gallagher. Earlier this year, Comcast Business, a sponsor of the summit, partnered with Philadelphia Technology Park, one of Enterprises properties, to provide the data center with access to Comcasts optical network and extensive fiber footprint. The new relationship allows both Philadelphia Technology Park and Comcast Business Services to continue to expand their connections in the region.
