Signature Development Group is seeking to add 600 apartments to the Brooklyn Basin development in Oakland, a move that would add to the already entitled 3,100 units of housing, but would also add to the project's timeline.

The 600 new units would fit within the footprint of the buildings as currently approved, but with more density. That would push the development's completion date from 2029 to 2038, SocketSite reports.

The Oakland Planning Commission is expected to comment on the proposed changes Wednesday.

Other changes in the proposal include adding 158 more boat slips, a water taxi loading dock and possibly changing the location of the five planned towers on the site.

Brooklyn Basin is ultimately planned to have a mix of apartments, townhomes and condos, 175K SF of retail, 30 acres of parks along the waterfront and a marina. The $1.5B project has taken two decades to get underway, but now has its first apartment building under construction and others ready to break ground, the San Francisco Business Times reports.

This is not the first time more housing has been added to the project.

Zarsion-Oakland Harbor Partners, a partnership between SDG and Zarsion Holdings Group, previously updated its land deal with the city to make possible 465 affordable apartments developed by MidPen.

Orion, the projects first apartment building with 241 units, is set to begin pre-leasing in 2019.
