Republic Properties Appears To Have Landed Another Federal Tenant To Replace The FCC

Republic Properties Corp. fought a legal battle to try to keep the Federal Communications Commission in its Southwest DC building, but now it appears the landlord has found a replacement for the agency.

Court documents show the General Services Administration has selected Republic's building at 445 12th St. SW as the winner of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. bid, the Washington Business Journal reports.

The GSA began seeking a new office last summer for the PBGC, an agency that protects pensions for more than 40 million employees. It is headquartered at 1200 K St. NW near Franklin Square.

Under the new deal, the PBGC would fill up to 431K SF at 445 12th St. SW and would move in by June 2021, helping to fill the 602K SF vacancy the FCC will leave in the building when it moves to NoMa in November 2019.

After the GSA selected Trammell Crow's Sentinel Square development in NoMa as the new HQ for the FCC last year, Republic filed a lawsuit contesting the GSA's search requirements. A judge in December dismissed that lawsuit, clearing the way for the FCC to move to NoMa.
