In the General Services Administration's first major real estate pre-solicitation issued under the Trump administration, the agency is seeking a new, 200K SF office for the State Department.
The GSA is looking to relocate State from its 189K SF office at 2200 C St. NW, across from the department's Harry Truman Building, before its lease expires in 2019, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The pre-solicitation calls for up to 198K SF for the agency, a potential expansion that represents a departure from the Obama administration's Reduce the Footprint mandate.
Congress must still approve the lease prospectus, which was signed by GSA acting administrator Tim Horne on Jan. 30. Trump has yet to appoint a permanent GSA administrator, and also needs to appoint a Public Buildings Commissioner to replace Norman Dong, who stepped down last month.
GSA Acting Commissioner for Leasing Chris Wisner will discuss the federal government's real estate activity at Bisnow's Federal Properties Summit on April 27.
