DC Water has run out of room at its five-story facility at Blue Plains, so it's time to head upstream. The utility company has submitted plans for a new $55M, 167,180 SF central HQ on the banks of the Anacostia River in Capitol Riverfront, next to the O Street Pumping Station. The proposed facility will be on 2.7 acres, surrounded by The Yards, the Florida Rock redevelopment, and Ballpark Square, the Washington Business Journal reports. This move will also free up space at the existing facility for expanded water treatment, and save the company up to $2M/year. The new building will be designed to meet LEED platinum standards or better, and will feature a glass and aluminum curtain wall on the south facade. SmithGroup JJR is listed as the architect; Oehme, van Sweden & Associates, the landscape architects; and Skanska, the GC. [WBJ]
