The GSA appointed Mark Weiss, formerly an executive vice chairman at Cushman & Wakefield, to serve as commissioner of its Public Buildings Service division, the agency announced Wednesday. The PBS commissioner oversees the federal government's nearly 360M SF real estate portfolio.

Weiss is the fourth person to fill the role since President Donald Trump took office in January 2025. Two of the previous three PBS commissioners held the role on an interim basis.

Michael Peters initially took over the role in January 2025. He oversaw a flurry of GSA activity in his short tenure, with the agency proposing scores of lease terminations and building sales as Trump sought to slash the federal footprint to cut costs. Many of those actions have since been walked back or slowed down.

Andrew Heller was named acting PBS commissioner in August 2025, then replaced by Michael Gelber in the role in July.

Weiss has more than four decades of commercial real estate experience, working on office leases and advising clients across sectors including finance, law and manufacturing. Based in New York, he has spent the last decade with Cushman & Wakefield and previously worked for the brokerage firms then known as Newmark Knight Frank and Studley, according to his LinkedIn page.

Last year, his team brokered a 250K SF lease with Goodwin Procter at 200 Fifth Ave. in Manhattan, which was honored by the Real Estate Board of New York at an awards event in May.

“At its core, PBS’s mission is to provide and manage efficient, cost-effective, and mission-ready workplaces that enable federal agencies to serve the American people,” Weiss said in a statement. “We will continue to advance the Trump-Vance Administration’s objectives and maintain the integrity of the federal government’s real estate portfolio.”

Also this week, the GSA appointed Jennifer Hill as the commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service, which oversees the government's procurement and contracting. Hill had been the chief financial officer of Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
