The Levy Group's plan to redevelop Georgetown's West Heating Plant into a 60-unit Four Seasons condo building has hit a major roadblock.
The Old Georgetown Board, an advisory committee that reviews projects in the historic neighborhood, rejected the latest proposal and sent the developer back to the drawing board, The Georgetown Dish reports.
The development team, led by Richard Levy along with New York-based Georgetown Co. and Four Seasons Residences, unveiled its latest design to community members last month. The team has been working on the design since it won the development rights for the World War II-era heating plant in March 2013 with a $19.5M bid.
The board told Levy to come up with with a new design and advised the developer to focus more on preserving the existing building's historic features rather than reinterpreting the building for modern use. Levy said he plans to review all options before deciding on his next steps.
