Vornado has big plans for the 12-acre site of the Commerce Executive Park, just south of the Wiehle-Reston East Metro.

The developer has applied to rezone the site to build two residential buildings with roughly 500 units, a 22-story, 385k SF office building and a 175-room hotel, Reston Now reports.

The development would be built in four phases, with the smaller residential component—a seven-story, 200-unit-residential building—delivering first. The other residential building, a 24-story tower with 300 units, would be one of Reston's tallest buildings. The plans would keep in place the existing office buildings and add the new development to open space and surface parking areas. It would include retail on the bottom floors of several buildings.

Vornado is one of several developers with plans for the Wiehle-Reston East area. Comstock Partners is developing a 7-acre site into a five-building, 1.5M SF development called Reston Station. Sekas Homes plans to demolish the vacant American Press Institute building and create a 44-unit townhouse development. Also, Wiehle Station Ventures has plans for a 260-unit residential building on a parking lot site. [RN]
