More Residential Planned For Area Around Wiehle-Reston Metro

Placeholder

Plans are in the works for a new residential building near the Wiehle-Reston Metro station.

Wiehle Station Ventures has submitted plans to develop a surface parking lot across from the Sunrise Valley convenience center into a residential building with 260 units, RestonNow reports. The site is along Sunrise Valley Drive at Lincoln Commerce Park, not too far from the Reston National Golf Course.

Almost two acres of the property will remain zoned industrial District I-3 to provide parking for a condo office building, although the developer is hoping for an exception to allow for off-street parking. A public hearing with the Planning Commission has been scheduled for May 12.

This is the latest project planned for the area around the Wiehle-East Metro station, including Reston Station, the 1.5M SF mixed-use development from Comstock Partners. Fairfax County is keeping a close watch on the wave of Metro-related development on tap for the area. The county is considering new urban street grids to make it easier to walk, bike and drive in Reston, which would include a Soapstone Drive Overpass as a new way to get to the Metro stop. [RN]
