The explosion of the data center industry in Loudoun County continues with the recent sale of a site that could yield up to 2.8M SF of facilities.
AOL sold the 65-acre Sterling site, a major chunk of the company's Sterling campus, to Sentinel Data Centers for $25.2M, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The site, bounded by Pacific Boulevard, Moran Road and Sully Road, is part of the 100-acre AOL campus that the company has been selling off in pieces following its acquisition by Verizon.
Sentinel has filed a proposal to build up to three data centers totaling 2.8M SF on the property. This part of Loudoun County has emerged as a national hub for data centers due to its proximity to population centers, energy and land costs, and favorable tax policy.
