Boston-based construction company Suffolk has opened an office in Herndon, Virginia, citing the area’s robust data center pipeline.

The office will focus on its mission-critical business. It will be led by Charles McCarthy, Suffolk’s mission-critical national chief operating officer, the company announced Tuesday.
This is the first office in the D.C. region for Suffolk, which has 11 other locations, including New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Dallas.
“Suffolk is recognized for its wealth of experience managing complicated, sophisticated data center and government projects nationwide, and Virginia is an important hub for that development activity,” McCarthy said in a statement.
The new office is at KBS Realty Advisors' Dulles Station East I at 2303 Dulles Station Blvd. It is a short drive from Dulles International Airport and Loudoun County's Data Center Alley.
Suffolk's Mission Critical Center of Excellence team has delivered more than 50 data center campuses totaling more than 3 gigawatts in 30 states, according to the announcement. The company said it works across every major sector, including healthcare, life sciences, education, gaming, transportation and aviation, federal government and public work, mission-critical and commercial.
Suffolk’s projects include upgrades to Tampa International Airport’s TSA checkpoint, a 221-unit affordable housing development in San Francisco, a 308-unit mixed-use apartment building in Miami and a 46-story mixed-use condo building in downtown St. Petersburg, the tallest residential building on the west coast of Florida.
It was also the general contractor for a new 635K SF lab building that opened late last month in Boston’s Seaport.
