Food for Thought. Construction King Jim Clark, right, with Perseus Vice Chairman John Schwieters at downtown Ritz Carlton Thursday night for Economic Club dinner. Club prez Vernon Jordan pulled out the usual rabbit from his hat: as dinner speaker, he produced former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, who sounded a bit like a Fed Chairman-in-waiting, pronouncing himself concerned about savings and other long term trends. Can't tell you more because I had to duck out early to get to theAkridge event (see below).
Two Worlds. Also at Economic Club dinner, Tech kingpin David Steinberg, CEO of DC's inPhonic, meets up with Real Estate "queenpins"— Rand CEO Linda Rabbitt and Pillsbury Winthrop DC real estate chairWendy White. A fourth dimension time warp during the reception suddenly allowed the inhabitants of these parallel universes to intersect.
New World. At Union Station's Columbus ClubThursday night, developer Chip Akridge, right, is joined by Akridge president Matt Klein and DC CongresswomanEleanor Holmes Norton. Party was to celebrate closing on 15 acres of air rights behind Union Station so Akridge can proceed on mixed-use Burnham Place, its biggest project ever. For the "groundbreaking," Chip says he will turn over a shovel of air, not soil.
Separated at Birth? Okay, so one has a goatee. But basically Akridge head of leasing Brian Connolly, left, and Holland & Knight real estate chair Chad Tiedemann are indistinguishable real estate geniuses who never lack for funny stories. Someday we'll publish the printable ones.
Bystanders. Normally DC City Councilman Jack Evansand Urban Trust Bank CEO Dwight Bush are in the ring in their respective fields, but at Fight Night earlier this month, they were just well dressed spectators.
Family Ties. Davis Construction president Dennis Cotter, second from right, is joined at Board of Trade Fall Classic at Smithsonian Castle last month by son Brian Cotter of CB Richard Ellis, as well as Cardinal Bank'sGreg Dougherty and Transwestern's Pete Larson.
