Edens CEO Jodie McLean, the developer spearheading the transformation of D.C.'s Union Market neighborhood, has been named a board member of one of the world's largest commercial real estate firms.

Cushman & Wakefield last week announced McLean was named an independent member of the firm's board of directors, becoming the eighth board member of the newly public company.

McLean has been with Edens for over two decades. She was named chief investment officer in 1997, president in 2002 and CEO in 2015. Edens does not list a corporate headquarters on its website, referring to its D.C., Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami and Columbia, South Carolina, offices as regional headquarters. But McLean told Bisnow in 2016 it shifted its home base to Bethesda when she moved to D.C. in 2015. The company then moved from Bethesda to a new office in the Union Market neighborhood in April.

Edens redeveloped the Union Market building into a popular food hall and is moving forward with the development of several mixed-use projects on the surrounding blocks. It also developed the Mosaic District mixed-use project in Fairfax.

In addition to leading Edens, McLean also serves as an executive board member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, a trustee of Urban Land Institute, and she serves on boards for Extended Stay America, Wofford College and other institutions.

Cushman & Wakefield launched its initial public offering in August. Its share price has fallen from its opening of $18 to $16.29 in the three months since. The company employs 48,000 people in 400 offices across 70 countries and brought in $6.9B in revenue in 2017.

Its other board members include CEO and Executive Chairman Brett White, TPG Senior Partner Jonathan Coslet, TPG co-Managing Partner Timothy Dattels, PAG partner Qi Chen, PAG Director Lincoln Pan, OTPP Director Rajeev Ruparelia and former EY executive Billie Williamson.
