The historic Hospitality High School, formerly home to the Maya Angelou Public Charter School, will become a 29-unit condominium. Hollow Creek Investment Group LLC is in contract to purchase the building at 1851 9th St NW, which was built in 1932 by architect Albert Cassell for the DC chapter of the Grand United Order of the Odd Fellows in America. Because of the buildings location in the Greater U Street Historic District, it's protected from major alterations, particularly to its exterior, the Washington Business Journal reports. An application filed with the BZA says the building can't sustain a school use, and will require a lot of dough to be converted to residential use. It will also require some significant variances from zoning regulations to allow for more density. The proposed condominium has seven units in the cellar, eight two-story units on the first and second floors, and seven units on the third and fourth. [WBJ]
