DC Retail Silver Lining

DC's affluent population, which earns the highest median income of any major metro area, according to CoStar's Erica Champion (above), is keeping the local retail sector hot. Erica told us this morning that gyms have been a big beneficiary, as 350k SF of fitness space was absorbed in the metro last year. And when retailers are looking to expand, DC is a natural target; Erica points to TJ Maxx(Georgetown) and DSW (CBD) as two prime examples of retailers looking to take advantage.
