Haven Developments Is Going All-In On Transit

Jordan Teperman, fifth generation of the iconic Toronto wrecking crew clan, is set to start demo work for Six25BV, the second project for his new development firm. We snapped him on-site at Sheppard Avenue East and Greenbriar Road, where Haven Developments is proposing an eight-storey, 146-unit condo with 10k SF of retail. Having honed his builder chops with Decade Group, Jordan launched Haven with Paolo Abate and Anthony Abate, of the Greenpark Homes family. “They had sites, my family had some, so we said let’s come together,” Jordan tells us, noting most properties are within 500 feet of transit.

Jordan, who started off in the family wrecking business before becoming a lawyer and eventually a developer, says Haven only wants sites with transit tie-ins. "We're building where the city needs us to be as it evolves." Its maiden project, University Heights Professional Centre, a 160k SF medical office building at 1275 Finch Ave W (below), is steps from the new Finch West subway station. Six25BV is between Bessarion and Leslie subway stations. Another project, Clarkson Village Town Homes, is beside Clarkson GO station. “We want to be the go-to guys when it comes to building along transit lines.”

Haven is also serving as development manager on a revamp of the Westin Prince Hotelsold to new owners last year—adding offices and restaurants. As for SIX25BV, Jordan says his group's hope is to start building the project next spring, pending a successful outcome at the Ontario Municipal Board. (Empire Communities, another Teperman family connection, will be handling the building's construction.) Jordan tells us big things are coming for the commercial space. "We're in talks with major retailers who will change the face of that stretch of Sheppard."
