Usually Encon Construction Services and Plump Engineering, both based in Orange County, work on industrial, retail, and other CRE projects. Recently they moonlighted a bit by working with Sarens, CalTrans, Southern California Edison and local police departments to get the retired Space Shuttle Endeavour from LAX to the California Science Center. The job was to protect roadways, sewer/storm drain systems, and underground utilities, by ensuring that the weight of the orbiter and its transporter didn’t damage any infrastructure. (One concern was if it was stopped in any one place for too long, it could be zoned as luxury housing and taxed accordingly.)
