Demand Brisk for Affordable Senior Housing

The demand for affordable senior housing in South Florida is stronger than it’s ever been. For example: when the 112-unit Village Place Apartments in Fort Lauderdale opened recently, it was fully leased.

Matt Rieger, president/CEO of Housing Trust Group—which developed Village Place Apartments—tells us he sees more opportunity in Broward for affordable housing development. In fact, next week his company’s submitting an application for funding to the Florida Housing Finance Corp for a new Broward development. “Village is an example of how public-private partnerships can be successful in providing much-needed affordable housing in Broward,” he says.

The mid-rise apartment is at 720 NE 4th Ave, near the Las Olas Boulevard area in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and includes a mix of 82 one-bedroom/one-bath units and 30 two-bedroom/two-bath units. The complex includes a gated entrance, a community center with computers and WiFi access throughout, a swimming pool and a fitness room. Residents will also have convenient access to The Wave Streetcar transit system scheduled to open in 2017.
